Two things worth being blunt about
Slaet has no bookmark grid. Not a smaller one — none. If your muscle memory is "new tab, click the third icon", switching will feel like losing a limb for about a week, and it may simply not be worth it to you. That capability moves to your bookmarks bar and address bar, which is a downgrade if the grid was the reason you installed Infinity.
Sync is free in Slaet and it isn't free in Infinity. That is the clearest practical difference between the two. Slaet's sync costs nothing because nothing in Slaet costs anything — there is no paid tier to move features into. Slaet also only offers Google sign-in, so if you sync Infinity through WeChat, Weibo, QQ or Facebook, there is no equivalent path.
Where your data sits
Slaet is local-first: with no account, everything stays in your browser on your device. Sign in and a synced copy is stored on Supabase, which you can delete along with your account at any time. Your browsing history is never read and nothing is ever sold — the privacy policy states exactly what is collected and where it goes.
Where Infinity New Tab is the better tool
Infinity New Tab is the better product if what you actually want is a launcher. Its speed-dial grid, icon library, bookmark and top-sites integration, Gmail unread badge and enormous wallpaper collection are more developed than anything Slaet offers, and it has been polished over many years for exactly that job. Slaet has no speed dial, no icon grid and no bookmark integration, so if your new tab is primarily how you navigate the web, Infinity wins outright.
